CMMC Level 2 Preparation in Northern Virginia

Gap assessment to C3PAO assessment — led by an MSP that passed its own Level 2 assessment first.

The DoD has ruled: CMMC is in contracts, flow-downs are moving through the supply chain, and Northern Virginia — the densest defense-contractor community in the country — is where assessors are busiest. If your company holds DFARS 252.204-7012 obligations anywhere from the Beltway to the Dulles corridor, Level 2 is no longer a future problem.

CLOUD2E prepares Northern Virginia contractors for CMMC Level 2 end to end: scoping, remediation, documentation, and assessment support, followed by the ongoing operation that keeps certification from decaying between audits. We are a CYBER-AB Registered Provider Organization — and, more to the point, we hold CMMC Level 2 ourselves. Our own enclave, our own SSP, our own C3PAO assessment, passed. When we tell you what an assessor will ask, it is because one asked us.

That difference matters practically. Advisory-only consultants hand you findings and leave the engineering to someone else; generic MSPs run your network but have never produced an evidence package. We do both halves as one motion, because compliance that is not operated is just paperwork with an expiration date.

// The path

Four phases, no mystery

01

Scope & gap assessment

Everything starts with the boundary. We map where CUI actually enters, lives, and leaves your business — contracts, email, file stores, endpoints, people — and define the smallest enclave that honestly contains it. Then we benchmark every one of the 110 NIST SP 800-171 practices against that enclave and hand you a scored baseline with your SPRS position and a remediation plan in plain priority order. No guesswork, no padded scope, and no surprise later about what the assessment will cover.

02

Remediate & harden

Our engineers close the gaps in deliberate order: identity and MFA first, then encryption, endpoint hardening to STIG-aligned baselines, logging and monitoring, and the access-control discipline assessors probe hardest. Where the right answer is an enclave rebuild — most often Microsoft 365 GCC High for CUI collaboration — we design and migrate it. Where the right answer is fixing what you have, we say so; remediation is engineering, not a shopping list.

03

Document everything

Assessments are won on evidence. We produce a System Security Plan that describes your real environment (not a template’s), a POA&M that demonstrates command of what remains, policies your staff can actually follow, and an evidence library organized the way a C3PAO walks through it. Our CMMC Tracker — included free for every compliance client — keeps registries, assessments, and artifacts current so documentation stops being a yearly archaeology dig.

04

Assess & maintain

When your C3PAO arrives, we are in the room: evidence staged, interviews prepped, findings handled without drama. And after the certificate, we keep the posture real — vulnerability scanning, continuous monitoring, incident response planning, and business continuity as an operating rhythm, so your next assessment is an administrative event instead of a second mountain.

The questions every NoVA contractor asks

How long does Level 2 preparation take?

For most small and mid-size Northern Virginia contractors: three to nine months from gap assessment to assessment-ready. The spread is almost entirely scope — a tight cloud enclave moves fast; a sprawling flat network with CUI everywhere does not. Phase one exists precisely to give you a dated, honest plan.

What does it cost?

Scope drives cost, which is why we price after a gap assessment rather than from a rate card. What we promise up front: a fixed, written proposal; no surprise change orders for things we should have found; and an enclave strategy designed to shrink both the assessment and the bill.

Do we need Microsoft 365 GCC High?

If ITAR data or certain CUI categories live in your collaboration tools, usually yes; some CUI profiles can defensibly stay commercial with controls. We make the call against your actual contracts and give you the rationale in writing — a decision that survives assessor scrutiny either way.

What happens after we pass?

Certification is a snapshot; contracts last years. We operate the enclave after the assessment — monitoring, scanning, evidence refresh, and our CMMC Tracker keeping the program current — so maintaining certification costs a fraction of earning it.
